World Sleep Day 2020 has arrived, and it’s time to celebrate the importance of sleep. And now more than ever, sleep should be your best friend.
Why?
With the most significant health challenge of COVID-19 now a reality, it’s essential that we all stay fit, healthy, and have a positive mindset.
When it comes to your health, sleep plays an important role. Skimping on sleep can adversely affect your immune system, leaving your body vulnerable to bad colds, flu, or the Corona Virus.
So here are five things you can do to ensure you sleep well, stay in good shape and keep those wrenched bugs away:
1. Don’t skimp on sleep
Try to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. If you get less sleep, your body produces fewer Cytokines. This type of protein fights infections and inflammation, creating a stronger immune system. More Cytokines = More Immunity. You’ll be stronger for it.
2. Reduce risks of serious health problems
There’s a link between shorter sleep time and impaired glucose tolerance, a key issue in diabetes. Research also shows an increase in diseases like high blood pressure, obesity and heart disease if we have less sleep or poor sleeping habits. It’s time to get serious about your sleep.
3. Recharge your brain
Feeling tired and having sleepless nights disrupts genes that govern your circadian rhythm, effectively reducing your ability to perform tasks and retain information. Not to mention your mood is also disturbed, making you feel grumpy, cranky, and tired. We need more happy times.
4. Make your bed a sacred space
Don’t stream tv shows or play on your mobile in bed. Your bedroom is for sleep.
5. Avoid heavy meals and stimulants
These things can affect your body clock and turn things into chaos. Avoid eating big meals and caffeine at least 3-5 hours before bedtime.
Now is the time to stock up on your sleep. A new routine can help save you and your family.
